My Arrival in France
When we
arrived at my family’s house, my great-aunt greeted me with a table full of
food and drinks. They had made me a
steak! Oh, it was soo good!! It’s like
they knew that is what I wanted. Hmm… I
wonder how they knew that I would want a steak after being in India for the
summer. Well, after stuffing me with
food, I was tired and fell asleep. But,
I did call Matt, Steve, and Larissa to see how they were doing. I thought my timing was good; I got them
right as they made it to the luggage carousel in the Philadelphia airport. They had a nice flight and were just waiting
to get their bags and leave the airport. I was eager to tell them that I had beaten them to eating a nice steak,
but Matt quickly said he beat me to America. I am ok with that. I am having a
nice time in France.
The next day, I woke up to traditional French
breakfast of brioche et du beurre, baguette, jus du orange, and café du
lait. Oh how I missed real food for
breakfast. While eating, I was surprised
when I saw them preparing dinner at 10am. That wasn’t dinner; they were making a veal roast and fresh garden
vegetables for lunch! I told them I was going to explode from all this food.
But, they said I would have to eat it. So I did. Needless to say, lunch
was amazing.
Dinner is another story. They had plans for us to go to a friend’s
place for dinner. Another place I
haven’t been in 15 years! I really like
coming back to these places. I really enjoyed
seeing how much I remember from the places. My family’s house for instance, I remember almost everything. Given, it is a very small place, but I still
remember everything. I also remember the
road, and the park that is just down the road. And then just past that is the bakery, where they make my favorite
croissants ever! I love these little
French towns and the quaint little shops.
Ok, dinner time. We went to Bugden and Annette’s house for dinner and during le aperitif,
they brought out all the old photo albums and they had pictures from the last
time I was there, 15 years ago! They
also had some pictures from about 13 years ago when they came to my house. It was a trip down memory lane for all of
us. Well, it was time for dinner. I don’t want this to become a food blog
again, but I will say that I had the next item on my list of things to eat,
ham. Mmm. It was good. If it seems like all I am doing
is talking about food again, well, that is basically going to be my entire time
in France with my family. I am going to
gain back all the weight that I lost this summer. But, it will be a tasty experience.
