Happy 4th of July, from India

This is not the first Independence Day I have spent away from home, or the first one that I have spent out of the country.  I have spent one fourth of July at camp, one at the beach, and even another one in the Caribbean.  But, this is definitely the farthest I have been from home for the 4th of July. I don’t know what it is, but this one also has more meaning to me than previous American Independence Days.  I think that I see how fortunate we really are to live in a free country, and have so many things that we take for granted.  It is also interesting to draw the parallels between the US and India, both once being British colonies.

I really don’t have too much else to say right now.  That’s not entirely true; this week was a flurry of meetings for me. Tuesday, I had a team meeting and we went over how the project was going, and where we were headed, and what needed to be done next.  On Wednesday, we meet with the Director of Research at Honeywell Technology Solutions Labs, Prakash Y V. And then, after that, we had a meeting with the Managing Director of Honeywell Technology Solutions Lab, Krishna Mikkilineni.  It is really nice to see that upper management is really focused on us.  It was also interesting to hear from Krishna that he saw me get off the shuttle one morning, and immediately asked who I was and when can he talk with the four of us. Later that day, I had another meeting, a conference call, with Lori DelGiudice and John Carroll, our University Relations Specialist and the Dir HR IT & Administration respectively. Thursday was the first day I had to take a breath from meetings all day, so I got to work on my project that was assigned on Tuesday.  Now, it’s Friday, the fourth of July.

I leave for Goa in a few hours, so it should be a nice holiday weekend for me, on the other side of the world.  Speaking of the holiday, last night we went out for dinner to a place called Barbeque Nation, it was my holiday cookout!  Well, more of a cook-in. The tables at the restaurant all had large holes cut in the top in which they put a charcoal grill to cook and season the shish kebabs! You got to marinate and then cook all sorts of food, including some mushroom, pepper, and onion kebabs, great shrimp, tender chicken, mouthwatering mutton, and than more of the above. They just kept bringing it all out too!  It was great.  I sort of wished there was a hamburger, but I was happy none the less.  It was a great grillin’ experience.

Anyways, to all the American’s reading this, have a happy and safe holiday.
