Past -vs- Present

Early means of communication, as primitive as it was, got the same job done just the same as we do today – talk over long distances. The only thing that has changed is the speed of transmission and clarity of reception.

How Telecommunications (or the lack thereof) impacts private citizens.

Small Picture

Telecommunications, or the lack thereof, directly affects all citizens. Telecommunications is the transmission of data signals over distances for the purpose of communication. It can be as simple as smoke signals and drums or as advanced as today’s electromagnetic television and radio waves. Early means of communication, as primitive as it was, got the same job done just the same as we do today – talk over long distances. The only thing that has changed is the speed of transmission and clarity of reception.

Today’s telecommunications have become second nature to everyday life. People do not think about the work behind picking up a phone and making a call, to most people it just happens. What would happen if it doesn’t just happen, how would people communicate in our instantaneous world?

The world as we know it would stop. Maybe that is a little drastic, but going from instantaneous communication to “no” communication would be harsh and unwelcome by all. Businesses would be lost and private citizens would feel helpless.
